The full form of IPS is Indian Police Service. The Indian Police Service is one of the three All India Services, along with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS). The IPS is responsible for maintaining law and order and preventing crime in India, and is headed by the Director General of Police (DGP) in each state. The recruitment process for the IPS is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) through the Civil Services Examination, and candidates who qualify are appointed to various posts in the police department.
